Central 1 Credit Union

About Us

Trade Association

Central 1 delivers a full slate of trade association and development services dedicated to advancing the interests of the credit union system at large. Evolving over time in response to credit union needs, these "non-financial" functions are broadly grouped to encompass government relations, risk management, operational advice, business development, marketing, market research and human resources.

As the official voice of its member credit unions, Central 1 carries out government relations activities focusing on legislative advocacy and liaison with regulators. Our role in risk management ranges from consulting and training on security and loss prevention strategies to administration of the system's master bonding and insurance programs.

Operational assistance to credit unions includes a comprehensive operations manual delivered through online channels. Central also maintains a business library and reference service.

Our economic analysis capability is unique in the Canadian credit union system. Central 1's economists produce a wide range of forecast and analytical reports on economic and financial subjects, and frequently comment in the media on economic news.

Central 1 facilitates credit union growth and development with a range of planning, research and implementation services in the areas of business strategy, wealth management and insurance. Our focus is to support credit unions, at the individual, group or system level, in forging solutions to business issues and capitalizing on market opportunities. In our integrator role, we foster collaboration among credit unions on matters of mutual concern to boost their access to economies of scale and reduce duplication of effort.

Our mandate includes the staging of conferences and special events for credit union audiences.

Among a mix of marketing activities, Central 1 conducts market research to assist credit union decision-makers, and manages a province-wide communications program in British Columbia that includes TV advertising, promotional tie-ins and a public website at www.creditunionsofbc.com.

Human resources consulting in the areas of compensation, performance management and employee relations is a key component of our trade association services.
