Position overview:

Central 1 is looking for a dynamic individual to join our network team.  The individual will work in our team environment to support our core network infrastructure and will also have a keen interest in supporting our voice and video services and helping us take them to the next level.  You’ll also participate in our 7x24 on-call rotation to support our mission critical applications and services.

You’ll be primarily accountable for:

  • Designing moderately complex IT network systems that are cost effective and meet the performance and availability requirements defined by the business.
  • Planning rollout of new network hardware and system releases, and makes sure they are properly tested before deployment to production in order to minimize the impact of change-related incidents.
  • Developing comprehensive operational procedures for on-going support, change management, incident and problem management.
  • Conducting capacity planning, process and resource analyses of the network and recommends options to improve performance
  • Creating and maintains documentation for existing and new network systems using detailed diagrams
  • Providing 7x24 on-call support in a customer centric environment and resolves the more complex problems, including the resolution of moderately complex interconnection issues with external service providers, or escalates to Network Architects.
  • Monitoring health and performance of key network systems on a daily basis; develops and implements moderately complex network monitoring tools and verifies that service levels are being met and communicated to the business owners.
  • Monitoring security forums and vendor mailing lists, makes sure all network systems are up to date with patches and not vulnerable to attacks.
  • Performing considerably complex troubleshooting of network systems in collaboration with other teams, ensures complete resolution of incident and customer satisfaction or escalates to more senior level staff.
  • Participating in various projects as a technical resource.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of Central 1’s IT infrastructure and operations
  • Performing other duties as required to deliver exceptional service and to support Central’s business goals

Your qualifications include:

  • University degree in computer science and 4 years relevant experience in a large scale IT environment.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of IT operations and processes and of applicable infrastructure deployments, applications and scripting languages.
  • Thorough knowledge of best practices related to network administration and documentation. Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with technical teams and other co-workers, work to schedules, and adapt easily to changing priorities and business needs.
  • Ability to effectively liaise with external service providers in the resolution of moderately complex interconnection issues.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a team environment. 
  • Experience working in an ISP environment considered an asset.
