Position overview

This is a permanent, full-time position that has two openings in this department.  As a candidate, you will be primary responsible for working in a team environment to provide network and voice systems maintenance, support and security. You are responsible for the ongoing daily management and support of our telephone system as well as our network infrastructure.  This includes telephony systems, routers, switches, firewalls, VPN monitoring, intrusion detection, DNS registration, network usage and performance monitoring and reporting.  You are expected to operate within established procedures, and must exercise judgment in solving technical problems.   You must also participate in a 7x24 on-call rotation.

You primary responsibilities will include:

  • Working within a team environment performing daily management of firewall and other network changes
  • Providing daily management, troubleshooting, and support of networking related issues, establish and maintain relationships with internal and external users
  • Implementing the necessary tools to proactively troubleshoot and where necessary assist and provide support to third parties to solve network connectivity problems
  • Detailing documentation, planning, design of network related projects including DNS, routing, firewall, VPN, access-lists and VLAN configurations
  • Designing documents and install end to end VPN infrastructures with third parties using the Cisco ASA VPN implementation standard
  • Designing and engineering products and allocate resources to meet the needs and requirements of Wide Area and Local Area network based services, including ISP-based communication services
  • Working in a team environment to manage the installation of products and resources to meet the needs and requirements of our WAN and LAN network based services
  • Optimizing the availability of network system architectures to deliver cost effective improvements that in turn deliver tangible business benefits
  • Constantly improving, analyzing, developing and verifying simulations and prototype bench tests of network infrastructures and services required to support the delivery of our services
  • Implementing network usage and performance monitoring tools (Smokeping, MRTG/Cacti, Intermapper). Documents and is proactive in optimizing the capacity and performance of the network infrastructure backbone to meet acceptable and agreed upon application response times
  • Responsible for DNS domain name standardization, (BIND) configuration and ongoing management including DNS coordination and communication with third parties
  • Providing 7x24 on call support for network related infrastructures
  • Working in a team environment to provide daily support management of Intrusion detection systems including firewall and IDS log analysis and reporting
  • Assigning severity level to IDS signatures, and take the necessary action to contain, eradicate and secure the network infrastructures accordingly
  • Assisting in the management and development of IDS/IPS policies and procedures
  • Assisting in the monthly network security report including IDS/IPS and Firewall activity
  • Experiencing supporting and tuning SIEM systems
  • Providing daily support on IP telephony systems including Cisco Call Manager, and Cisco Unity voicemail systems
  • Monitoring and maintain telephone systems to ensure they remain highly available

Your qualifications include

This position requires a minimum of five years’ experience in network support preferably with a Cisco CCNA and CCSP/CCNP Security certification.  Voice related certifications are highly desirable (E.g. CCVP).  Proficient in networking security and support management, firewall configuration, IDS network based intrusion detection and VPN configuration and support. The incumbent is expected to have advanced network security expertise and be very knowledgeable with TCP/IP protocols, DNS, SMTP, VPN IPSEC encryption methodologies and pre shared key management.  The incumbent must be familiar with command line management tools and ideally shell scripting, python etc. The incumbent is also expected to have sound knowledge of the following:

  • Good understanding of the power infrastructure (UPS, PDU, Circuit breakers, Power distribution in the rack, and Power consumption) in the data center
  • Good understanding of the cooling infrastructure (Humidity, Air distribution) in the data center
  • Experience with data center management tools
  • Experience with the server assembling, cabling, racking and installation
  • Experience working in an ISP environment considered an asset
  • Supporting a mixed Linux/Windows server environment
  • Cisco router and switch IOS, 802.1Q VLAN, HSRP, OSPF, BGP configuration and support
  • Cisco ASA/PIX firewall implementation, configuration and support
  • Network traffic analysis (ASA capture, sniffer, tcpdump, ethereal etc.)
  • Web Content load balancing
  • Communication infrastructures, VPN, ATM, MPLS etc.
  • Familiar with supporting voice related technologies including legacy PBX systems, voice mail systems, VOIP and IVR systems
