Position overview

Central 1 Credit Union has an exciting employment opportunity for an analyst to join our Liquidity and Market Risk Management department. Reporting to the Middle Office Manager, the Middle Office Analyst will be responsible for calculating, monitoring, reporting and analysing risk exposures and P&L related to funding investment, derivative, foreign exchange and securitization products. The Middle Office Analyst will engage in financial risk related projects and assist the development and implementation of models and analytics and will support financial modelling projects. This position is based in Toronto, ON, but given Central 1’s mandate its scope will include both British Columbia and Ontario.

You’ll be primarily accountable for:

  • POST-TRADE CONTROL: Ensuring that trades and transactions are accurately reported and represented
  • FX AND FIXED INCOME POSITION AND P&L: Independently reporting and analyzing FX and Fixed Income positions and P&L; ensuring results equate with market activity; identifying, explaining, communicating, and collaboratively resolving discrepancies; assisting with reporting development and information related to Central 1 Securitization activities
  • DV01 MODEL: Ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the spreadsheet model used to calculate and monitor DV01 exposure
  • INTERNAL CONTROLS: Performing key compliance and control procedures aimed at ensuring the integrity and accuracy of Treasury activities
  • PROCESS MAINTENANCE AND ENHANCEMENT: Ensuring that Central 1’s risk procedures are accurately and appropriately quantified; suggesting and implementing process improvements to ensure a robust risk control framework; ensuring that new products and activities are properly incorporated into the reports and controls
  • REPORTING: Providing input into management reporting requirements

Your qualifications include

As the successful candidate, you possess an undergraduate degree in finance, economics, math, or another quantitative subject and/or a combination of education and experience/competence in quantitative analysis and other relevant business areas. You have at least three years of experience in an operational risk management, or a compliance and control role specifically related to treasury activities. Experience in performing reconciliation is also an asset. You possess knowledge of computer applications and have a strong competency in Microsoft Excel and Access. You possess working knowledge of key treasury markets and products. You have demonstrably strong and accurate quantitative skills and pay scrupulous attention to detail. You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to clearly and logically express yourself, both verbally and in writing. You’re able to work cooperatively with others, both within the department and in other areas. Above all, you have the flexibility to be responsive to the business needs of Central 1 and the credit union system. You can adapt to the evolving needs of the department and are able to cope in a rapidly changing environment.
