Relationships & Advocacy

Member Relations

Member Relations manages relationships and business opportunities with member credit unions. We seek to understand credit union challenges and strategic initiatives in order to identify potential opportunities for Central 1 to match our services with credit unions’ needs, fill any service gaps, and to offer new services or products. Member Relations managers also serve as information resources, conduits of feedback to Central 1’s senior management and as credit unions’ advocates for issue resolution. We offer a number of collaborative forums to engage and inform our valued members.

Through our B.C.- and Ontario-based teams, we build deeper relationships and develop stronger channels of communication with credit unions. Our team conducts in-person visits and acts as a central point of contact for inquiries from member credit unions.

We:

  • Liaise and listen to credit unions to gather observations, ideas and concerns
  • Provide new opportunities for development and growth for member credit unions
  • Introduce Central 1’s products and services to the B.C. and Ontario marketplace
  • Keep B.C. and Ontario credit unions up-to-date on Central 1 developments

Our role is to understand individual credit unions’ needs, challenges and strategic initiatives.

Government Relations

Through robust policy analysis and research, the Government Relations group represents credit union interests to elected and non-elected public officials. The group coordinates the lobby efforts of all provincial credit unions to ensure a coherent and effective impact through regional representation in B.C. and Ontario, including engaging in regional advocacy days.

We speak to governments, stakeholders and the public in order to:

  • Advocate on behalf of member credit unions to all levels of government
  • Engage in the development and implementation of legislative changes
  • Assist credit unions in understanding the provisions of legislation and regulations that impact their operations
  • Promote credit unions to government and the public

We represent the collective voice of B.C. and Ontario credit unions.
