Central 1 is pleased to recognize the Province of BC’s (the Province) recent announcement about the availability of Interac e-Transfer as part of its upgrades to Emergency Support Services (ESS). The achievement demonstrates the benefits of leveraging modernized payments to support Canadians’ increasing demand for digitally enabled payment choices.

As a financial institution headquartered in Vancouver, B.C., Central 1 knows first-hand the significant role the Province’s ESS plays during large-scale evacuations and the importance of providing immediate relief. Central 1 is proud to have supported the Province, working closely with Interac to introduce this new payment solution and to continue our role as the Province’s payment service provider.

“The Province’s inclusion of e-Transfer as part of its Emergency Support Services is a leading example of embracing innovation and post-pandemic digital transformation to enhance existing programs in response to the evolving expectations of individuals and businesses alike,” said Sheila Vokey, Central 1’s President and CEO. “As an integral member of Canada’s banking system, processing more than 645 million payments annually on behalf of 295 financial institutions across Canada, it’s an honour to support the Province to provide safe and quick access to funds for British Columbians during an evacuation emergency.”

Looking ahead, Central 1 is well-positioned to support our clients in navigating the impact and opportunities of the ongoing accelerated demand for all things digital while continuing to support safe, secure and efficient payments. This effort is part of our payments modernization strategy that is focused on risk management, flexibility and responsiveness to our essential payments business through a modernized payments infrastructure while simultaneously positioning the credit union system and financial services industry for growth and innovation.
