VANCOUVER, B.C., October 1, 2020 – Central 1 (or ‘the organization’), alongside institutional investors managing more than $2.3 trillion in assets, has signed the Canadian Investor Statement on Diversity & Inclusion, a new initiative coordinated by the Responsible Investment Association (RIA).

As a signatory to the statement, Central acknowledges the existence of systemic racism and its impacts on Black and Indigenous communities and People of Colour in Canada and globally. Central 1 also recognizes the existence of inequities and discrimination with respect to gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, culture and socio-economic status.

We all have a responsibility to ensure persistent inequities in business and our society are eliminated,” said Brent Clode, Central 1’s Chief Investment Officer.  As an institutional investor, Central 1 can contribute to addressing these inequities in Canada by taking intentional steps to promote diversity and inclusion across our investment portfolios and within our organization.

Central 1 commits to taking steps to integrate diversity and inclusion (D&I) into our investment processes such as monitoring D&I practices of Canadian public companies and conveying our expectations for improved D&I disclosures. The signatories collectively expect Canadian public companies to aim for the adoption of policies, targets and timelines to improve diversity on boards and in senior management, with the ultimate goal of being aligned with the racial and ethnic demography of Canada. Central 1 has committed to reporting our efforts to promote D&I, and to reviewing and updating our practices as we learn from our experiences.

Communities thrive because of a rich tapestry of diversity and inclusion,” said BrentWe must also amplify the diverse voices, ideas and perspectives that make our country unique. We will actively share our experiences and best practices to enhance our collective efforts to create a more inclusive and anti-racist business and investment landscape in Canada.

As a new member of RIA, Canada’s industry association for responsible investingCentral 1 has joined over 130 organizations who are committed to growing and supporting responsible investing in Canada.
