Every day, billions of scam attempts target Canadians, collectively costing victims countless dollars each year. But the damage goes beyond financial loss; some scammers even threaten safety and security, often funding other serious crimes. As scams become more sophisticated and widespread, taking action together has never been more critical. That’s why the Canadian Anti-Scam Coalition (CASC) exists: to take a stand and fight back.
The CASC is the largest cross-sector anti-scam effort in Canadian history, uniting leaders in finance, telecommunications, technology, law enforcement, and government. This national initiative equips Canadians and businesses with the knowledge and tools to prevent, identify, and stop scams. At the same time, the CASC works behind the scenes to develop solutions, share expertise, pool data, and strengthen defense.
About the Stand Against Scams campaign
Launched in October 2025, Stand Against Scams is the Coalition’s first major public initiative, calling on members to amplify awareness and combine resources to protect Canadians. The campaign focuses on three simple steps anyone can take:
- Stop – Pause before acting on any request for money or personal information, especially if it feels urgent or too good to be true.
- Check – Verify if the message, email, or caller is legitimate.
- Talk – Share what you know with friends and family to prevent others from falling victim. If you’re unsure, report the incident to the organization the potential scam contacted you from or to the police.
Credit Unions and Central 1’s role
Each CASC member brings unique strengths to the campaign, working collaboratively to fight fraud. Together, Central 1 and the Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) represents the credit union system’s unified stance on scam prevention.
“Credit unions are deeply rooted in local communities, connecting with over 5 million Canadians to share the message: Stop, Check, Talk. Central 1’s proven expertise in fraud prevention strengthens CASC’s mission to build a safer financial system. We are proud to stand with CASC in the fight against fraud.”
Ron Kaine – AVP Fraud & Compliance Products & Services, Central 1
From the beginning, Central 1 helped shape the initiative by participating in workshops with industry experts to define the problem, collaborating with partners to design and implement solutions that protect Canadians from scams.
We contribute deep expertise in fraud detection, having successfully operated one of Canada’s largest fraud prevention consortiums. Our experience building and managing systems across multiple organizations strengthens CASC’s ability to deliver results.
Beyond fraud prevention, we provide technical expertise, foster industry collaboration, and manage secure payments infrastructure for credit unions and challenger financial institutions.
