The concluding day of Momentum 2023 was nothing short of engaging and energizing. The day kicked off with a panel moderated by Sheila Vokey, Central 1 President and CEO and joined by credit union leaders Brian Harris, President and CEO of Interior Savings; Launi Skinner, CEO, First West Credit Union; and Dennis Alvestad, CEO, Copperfin Credit Union. They shared their organizations’ respective reflections on some of the most top-of-mind topics for credit unions including open banking, mergers and consolidations, becoming federally regulated, and insights to support a thriving future in an ever-changing financial ecosystem.  

Recognizing the intricate balance between risk and opportunities presented by accelerating digitization, Jeremy Wilmot, President and CEO of Interac, shared insights and methods for credit unions to thrive in a competitive landscape as well as Interac’s evolving approach to supporting credit unions on this journey.

In a digital economy, credit unions, financial institutions and fintechs are transitioning from competitors to partners. Moderated by Sue Britton, CEO, Firefly Growth, this panel explored how credit unions and fintechs can come together to foster a successful and mutually beneficial collaboration.  

Continuing the discourse on payments modernization, a discussion featuring leaders from payment space emphasized the need for secure digital payments reinforced by payment modernization. The panelists offered their expertise and shared experiences on proactive strategies used to enhance their institutions’ preparedness and agility. 

Other key highlights from the final day include: 

  • Breakout sessions led by Central 1 and industry experts focused on treasury management, human-centred mergers management and trust services. 
  • Central 1’s presentation on digital product progress in retail banking, business banking, cyber security and authentication, Forge Community, in addition to an introduction to Central 1’s platform strategy.  
  • Miklós Gábor Dietz, Senior Partner, McKinsey & Company, showcased the state of banking globally and ecosystem opportunities for financial services players.
